The Sun is our nearest star. It is very bright. Its brightness is comparable to that of 4 trillion one-hundred-watt light bulbs. Its central temperature is 15 million degrees Kelvin (27 million degrees Fahrenheit). It is a self-luminous gaseous sphere. It has no solid surface. Its size is about 100 times that of the Earth and its mass is roughly 300,000 times that of the Earth, while its visible surface is a relatively cool 6,000 degrees Kelvin (10,000 degrees Fahrenheit)
