Stars have very hot centres. The centres are many millions of degrees Kelvin hot. (A Kelvin is a SI unit of temperature; zero degrees Celcius equals 273 degrees Kelvin.) When the stars' hot interiors radiate to the space's cooler surface layers, stars shine.
