<br>Offside is a Law in association football which effectively limits how far forward attacking players may be when involved in play. Simply put, a player cannot gain an advantage by waiting for the ball near the opposing goal with only the goalkeeper between him and the goal (only in the usual situation that the goalkeeper is the last defender).

<br>The offside is perhaps the most complex of the football rules, and people not familiar with the game often have difficulty in understanding it.
