What is god?? And what is religion??
I'd like to explain it in terms of "lesser mortals" and "greater mortals"..
By the former, i mean those people who cannot understand the real intend of religion and believes verbatim on the concept of god and the spiritual people..
For these people, religion forms a guide-line on what is right and what is wrong and helps them stick to the righteous path thereby ensuring a disciplined socitey..
By the later, i mean those pople who have well developed mind and can understand that the above with regard to the lesser mortals is the purpose of religion.. i.e, to ensure discipline in society.. Also because these pople have well developed minds, they have a well developed conscience and can distinguish right from the wrong and do not need the aid of religion in doing so..
There is a third class of mortals, the "messy mortals" constituted by many religious leaders, and some people who understand the purpose of religion but do not have well developed conscience.. It is these people who are the root cause of religio-political mixups, wars, terrorism, alternate interpretation of religious texts to satisy vested interests etc.. |
